1. Rio didn't need a second movie 2. Ice age didn't need more than 2 movies, but after 3 it went completely down hill Because the growth characters once had don't exist and then they get dumbed down into clichés
Also- Why does The Smurfs, The Smurfs 2, Trolls, Trolls 2, UglyDolls, Ferdinand, The Emoji Movie, and Wonder Park exist?
I mean I know why. Cash grabs, but seriously? UglyDolls is Basically Trolls. Why have both? Why do we need a movie about a Bull who doesn't want to be a fighter. There are so many 'Special snowflake' movies already. The Emoji Movie blegh. Wonder Park! Ooh, talking animals! And an amusement park!
Anyway, Storks right? Dry Humor is the big come up of this movie guys! It's amazing. Also, Storks is basically what the Boss Baby and Trolls tried to be but totally failed. It's main focus on characters growing together (I know overdone) didn't feel like the typical 'us going on a journey together doing something I don't want to made me want to do this and care about what we're doing'
Is this movie basically Ice Age but with Storks? Perhaps! But maybe that's why it works. Seriously, for a kids movie it isn't pandering with slapstick comedy. It doesn't treat the kids that are watching like mindless brats who need to see animals / people being harmed for it to be funny. The movie tells actual jokes that are just 'Set up and Punchline'. And sure, the general plot has been used before but the familiarity adds to the movie. We know what we're in for, but with a twist. That adds to the charm! And the homely-ness of the movie and the idea of how important family really is just radiates throughout the second half of the movie.
Definitely not a kids movie just to be a kids movie. Like the fucking Croods.
I also feel like Storks (the animated movie) and The Angry Birds Movie (1) are highly overlooked. Both came out in 2016, but we're overshadowed by : Zootopia and The Secret Life of Pets.
Both movies are comedic in a way that it's not pandering to children. Even though Angry Birds could be considered a Brand Name cash grab, it did its job at telling a (not really) compelling story- Okay, what actually makes The Angry Birds Movie worth while is the comedy. The Plot and Resolve are meh at best, but the journey is what really keeps it a decent movie! As well as the characters! They're all generally decent characters.
Side note : I think the Secret Life of Pets is not a good movie. The "Insert character who is very loyal and catch share gets lost with another dog who he doesn't like and ends up becoming friends" is a trope I don't want to see so many times if it doesn't at least have characters with substance and a decent plot to go along with it.
just a quick thing I know it's been said before but the emoji movie is literally Wreck It Ralph + Divergent + The Lego Movie. Mostly Wreck It Ralph and Lego movie, but Divergent in a sense that Trish isn't a single thing and shows off that she can be qualified for different factions and is then set to be killed just as Gene in the emoji movie can show and wants to show different emotions and is also set to be killed
