Zachary Merrick, what happened?

Compare a bassline like, say, Coffee Shop Soundtrack, ( or The Girl's A Straight-Up Hustler ( to basslines like Dear Maria, Count Me In, ( or Time-Bomb ( and you can see that complexity in these basslines degrades over time.

"Sure, maybe Zach did degrade, RyStar, but Weightless ( has a more complex bassline - and that came out after Dear Maria!"

Outlier. It's an exception, not the rule. Zachary Merrick is an incredible bassist hiding in the thin veils of pop music.

Damn fucking good pop, I'll give them that, but it's still pop.
